This cereal is the SHIT! And other assorted oddments.

1. A couple of weeks ago, the grocery store was out of my normal not-really-that-appealing high fiber cereal, so I was forced to switch brands. I'm so glad I did, because this new one tastes a million times better, and is also considerably more...effective. I know the blissful second trimester period of easy bowel movements may end soon, but I am hopeful that my new buddy here will prolong it for as long as possible.

2. I'm taking a break from working on my research statement for my tenure file. (By the way, the process lasts about A YEAR, so don't expect any I'm tenured! announcements from me any time soon.) When writing about my future research program I'm listing lots of projects like breastfeeding successfully, taking walks to get gelato with Bun Bun, lying in the back yard with Bun Bun... Do you think that might create the impression that I'm not really too committed to my job? 'Cause I totally am. I swear.

3. I'm really enjoying this song. (It's folky. You won't like it if you don't like folky music.)

  1. Tenure track - A YEAR? Blimey. Bit of a marathon, eh? What's the logic of that? To show true commitment? Like being a nun-novice, maybe.

Folky song non marche pas, unfortunately. Pity I could like Folk.

  2. I will definitely take your cereal advice. The past three months have given me a great, undying respect for regular BM's.

Your project list, by the way, sounds winning.

  3. Get used to your life revolving around how intake affects poopage. Cause it's just going to transfer to wee little Bun Bun soon. We here in the JB household had an epic (and I use that word carefully) poopsplosion this morning -- the pajamas were duly sacrificed as I do not care to figure out how exactly to launder something that fouled. The sheets got changed, the diaper changing table required an extra layer of coverage to catch wayward poop, it was (because this bears repeating) EPIC. Made more awesome by a baby who now loves to grab his feet and swing his arse into the air every chance he gets. So he got an unexpected bath at 7AM.

Just giving you a taste of the poop-centric existence you will soon know. :)

  4. That fiber-filled cereal looks yummy. Enjoy its effectiveness. That is no small joy.
I like your research program. Maybe you could add piagetian experiments with a single subject design, just for good measure. I think you can also put a twist on the gelato run in your description and make it sound like a field study with huge amounts of external validity.

  5. A year? Oh my. Well I do look forward to your future I AM TENURED announcement. Where all the blog friends have gathered to drink large cocktails in your honour, while Bun Bun lounges quietly in his bassinet.

What Twangy said - i would love to hear a good folk song, but couldn't get it to work.

  6. Bowel movements? You never fail to deliver bunny! And your list sounds awesome. :)

  7. It's an insanely long process. The good thing is that you can do your part and then it's out of your hands. Do you also have to suggest names for outside examiners/inquisitionists? That was the hardest part for me. But, honestly, once it was done the great thing was that the process happened largely without my knowing anything about it (I actually preferred this). I received mysterious envelopes when I passed certain levels (like a weird video game I was playing blindly) but even that seemed to happen at a remove.

Fingers crossed for straightforward, pro forma and painless.

Ah, fiber. Thank goodness for it.

  8. Love this song. Thanks for sharing. I can totally see myself dancing with Little Livvy Doodle to it (and you with Bun Bun ;) Downloading, pronto. Good for you for taking some time away from your work to hang out with Bun Bun. I think that's important, soak it all in, friend. Like JB stated above, you're going to be dealing with a different type of poopage very soon. We also had an epic poopsplosion this morning that involved changing every article of clothing and an unexpected bath for O. These crazy pooping babies! Can't wait till you're having fun with it too! ;)

  9. Thanks for the cereal rec! Um, and let me prepare you for the amazing-ness of the first postpartum BM (which took me 5 days thankyouverymuch) - it's awesome.

  10. Ooh, yeah, forgot about the postpartum dookie. TAKE THE COLACE. Let me repeat: they will ask you to take stool softeners, and you will think, "meh," BUT TAKE THE COLACE. Trust.

  11. I have been a commenting mess lately. On the poo front, well done. Arming yourself with blow seems wise. I endorse the high fiber tortilla and double fiber bread as well. Nothing says onstipationca more than loading up on that shit at Cost.co.

In my mind you are turning a blind eye to my lack of organization and my spotlessly-clean-yet-messy self whilst I forgive you for le folk musick. Indeed. You can take the hippy out of Berkeley...ahem.

Apologies right here for lack of words lately, but I've been following along closely and seriously cannot wait for tales of bun bun hopping through your garden and chasing those pesky, vegetable eating bunnies from your patch.
