Smileish

I thought Bun Bun's first smile would be like the sun appearing from behind a cloud--you know, with angels singing and so forth? But no. It turns out it's a lot like feeling her move for the first time. There's a certain amount of OH! WAS THAT IT?! IS SHE SMILING!?! Oooo! Oooo! And then I'd palpate her belly to see if she was instead straining to take a shit. Romantic, huh? But while not as black and white as I expected, it has certainly happened, and is certainly a magical thing.

So then I tried to capture it on film. After about 50 shots, this was a close as I could get.

Skeptical. Vaguely annoyed. Thinking, Mama is tiresome. Almost like happy, right?

  1. That is one darling little Bun. I love the round, little face and the skeptical expression. In about two weeks you'll be getting smiles all the time and have plenty of photos! And just wait...the first giggle...ah, joy!

  3. The first smiles are kind of smirkish. Once she gets the hang of it, she'll be a grinning fool. And you will be dancing like a monkey on crack trying to make her smile all the time. Trust.

  4. She is beautiful!!! Love all that hair!! This is the first of many times that she will make a flat liar out of you. You SEE her do it, try to get a pic/tell hubby to come quickly, etc. to see--then, nothing. Ugh. Little kids--they're smart, they are!

  5. Such a cutie! It's so hard to capture the smiles on camera, as soon as I bring it up, the smile disappears!! Hope you get many more smiles soon :-)

  8. Yeah I got a lot of pictures that look like that. Plus a bunch with him with one fist over his head--"look everyone my son is the worlds smallest whitest black panther!" no one found that funny except me. Now I swears he stops smiling when the camera comes out.

  10. I believe she is sending a deep joy via telepathy to your soul, or about to fart. Hard to say. I will go with joy for now and will trust your smell to judge otherwise.

You know, all seriousness, that she is gonna bust loose any day and make a living as a stand up baby comedian? Her sense of humor is going to be grand and her Audience HUGE. Well, maybe as big as your followers, but what other mother can lay claim to charmed audience here? Thats right. I cannot wait.

PS. I have this fantasy where I get to introduce you to the Clueless' and let you be your bad self. No murdering needed as they will feel the intensity of their stupidity with the strength of a thousand burning suns. Or the equivalent wattage in bun bun's smiles. :)

  14. What a doll! :) It's funny, now that he's such an expressive baby I almost can't remember a time when Arlo wasn't all smiley and chatty.
