It never ceases to amaze me how smart and thoughtful and...willing to be nice to me you guys are. Thank you. I slapped BFB around a little and she apologized. (Actually, she apologized before I even had to slap her around.) You're right that it will take a while to find our new equilibrium, but I think we will.
This weekend I put the garden to bed for the winter. When I did my first round of planting this season I posted a photo along with a request that it not be a totally barren year. It has instead been a pretty fucking fruitful year. I finally had enough tomatoes, and I even got a volunteer butternut squash plant (or pumpkin, for my Australian and New Zealander friends) that must have sprouted from a seed in the compost. I love butternut squash, and this plant produced two little beauties, one of which made a delicious soup for us last week (with fried sage leaves! Mmmm!). And then there's the little fruit presumably still ripening all up in my womb. I can't believe it. I would have bet a considerable sum on the reverse outcome, for reals.
Also this weekend: Mr. Bunny accused me of glowing. I was like, Whatever! You've just forgotten what it looks like when I'm HAPPY because it's been so fucking long.
That soup sounds amazing. Fried sage leaves? I must try it, but LG doesn't like butternut squash, so that's a lot of soup to eat on my own. Maybe I'll have a soup party.
ReplyDeleteDealing with friends w/ babies has been one of the hardest aspects of this crap (you know, aside from the constant crying and complete reexamination of one's status as a woman and the slow destruction of all dreams). So many people just don't freaking get it. I have a friend who complains about how "everything is sooooo much harder with a baby" EVERY TIME I TALK TO HER. Surprisingly enough, I don't talk to her all that often!
But then there are people who are just there for you in the most amazing and selfless way. You deserve to have that, and I guess right now you're finding out if BFB can be that kind of friend. It's hard for people to realize that "it" (whatever it is) is not about them. We usually want to make things about us. But I'm glad it seems like she's coming around.
I am very glad that you and BFB worked through things, I am sure this relationships needs a little time to get back on track.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear about all the fruitful things your life right now. I like that you are glowing/happy again. You derserve to be that way so much.
Glowing is good. Don't eat too much sage, can cause uterine contractions. Putting the garden to bed always makes me a little sad but it's not ready to be put to bed yet--still cranking out peppers, eggplants, beets and brussle sprouts.
ReplyDeleteOh, Happy Bunny. I am so happy for you to be happy. Forever and ever amen.
ReplyDeleteSo now it's time to hunker down for the winter, snuggle into warm blankets and into the familiar rhythm of the holidays. Then it will be spring and time to feather the nest!
ReplyDeletei forgot, does bfb know about this blog? am wondering if she read about all of us butchering her in the last post and that's what made her feel bad.
ReplyDeleteyou're GLOWING, you're GLOWING!! heehee. soo happy that you're happy. dh has accused me of not being happy ... yet. must hear heartbeat, must hear heartbeat is my new mantra. i suggested to him that we buy a doppler and after being told what it was, he freaked out bc he knows it will make me nut(tier). ummm, we won't be getting one any time soon.
I am glad that your happy and your garden has done well.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're glowing! :)
ReplyDeleteYip for a glowing Bunny!
ReplyDeleteI was not around to comment on the BFB post but I think your course of action sounds sane and smart. Listen, she has a freaking BABY, she's living the dream, she can put you first for just a bit. And as Sloper says, time will tell if she can be the friend you need and deserve.
We put fried sage on my fave fall side dish: sweet potato with brown butter. Mmmmmmmmm! Yay Fall! xo
I love the fertile garden imagery, and also love how downright unbarren you are! The butternut squash with the sage sounds divine. How's this for a deal: we get together, eat some beautiful, fresh, and wonderful yummies, and the Multiplying Bunnies will totally be featured in the FIFPalooza lineup. Whaddaya say?
ReplyDeleteOh Bunny, I'm so happy that you're glowing and happy again :). And glad that your garden was not barren...
ReplyDeleteButternut squash soup is my favorite thing about fall - it's what makes the end of summer bearable for me!
Glad BFB came to her senses, too. Sigh. We should all be lucky to have a friend that cares enough to try (even if she fucks it up royally every now and then).
So glad that you and BFB talked and she apologized - you two really do have a great relationship - wonderful. I'm so jealous about the garden - maybe next year...
ReplyDeleteYou're glowing??? Oh that's wonderful! I'm so happy that you're happy - good for you!!!
I'm glad that BFB came to her senses and it looks like your friendship is on the mend.
ReplyDeleteHooray for glowing and a fruitful year!!
A glowing Bunny! What a great image.
ReplyDeleteGardens abound in your neck of the woods, bunny. Something to be thankful for on this Thanksgiving day (in Canada).
And, glad to hear that bfb apologized. Must give you hope for the survival of this friendship.
Hurrah for a glowing Bunny!
ReplyDeleteButternut squash with sage, yuuuuummmmmmm, my favourite. I'm glad you and BFB worked things out.
Happiness! We forget how much we this experience robs us of that. I'm so glad that you're in this place right now.
ReplyDeleteI’m glad she apologized. That’s the foundation for a good friendship – knowing when you’ve misspoken. Your garden sounds yummy, by the way (because, naturally, I think of gardens more in terms of dinnertime than communing with nature).
ReplyDeleteAnd you’re glowing even from a distance of several states, and over the internet. And it makes me – and your other readers, I am guessing – very happy.
Your conversations with Mr Bunny are great.
ReplyDeleteAnd yay for such a fruitful year!
