Suck it, 2010

In our house, the New Year's Eve tradition is to make elaborate paper hats after dinner. This is largely because we are old and can't stay awake if we don't have something to occupy us. Here's mine.

Yes, it is pretty bad ass, I agree.

Then we wear our hats while sitting around by the fire. Sometimes we have a spelling bee. We know how to party. When the new year arrives, we burn the hats in the fireplace.


There's nothing quite like burning shit up to allow for the symbolic release of all that was not so awesome about 2010. I am lucky--2010 brought me a lot of happiness, and if I stay lucky, 2011 will bring me a great deal more. I hope the same is true for all of you.

    How about a rousing game of Apples to Apples? Sure, it's intended to be a children's game, but...anyway, Happy New Year to you and the mister and little Bun Bun. May 2011 be your best year yet!

    And I second the suggestion that you will have to make a hat with/for Bun Bun. A teensy-weensy little Bun Bun New Year's party hat. For all of us to die over.

    Awesome hat! And burning of the hat! That sounds like a compelling ritual in your household. Burn it up and start from the ashes. I know the latter part of 2010 has brought you great joy, but I was also a reader when it was mucho sucko. So, goodbye Bunny's 2010 and hello 2011. I wish yo so much joy this year, dear woman.

    I love the hat idea!! Though, if it's meant to decorate the previous year, I think I might have to decorate mine with dog turds. Those might not burn so well:)
