Normal Glumness is back in effect. I'm particularly glum for Roccie, not that my glumness will do her one bit of good. Fuck.
Anyway, I wanted to mention something that might be of interest to other Sisters of the Fibroid. At my very first pregnant ultrasound (lo, these many weeks ago) my RE noted that there's a new meatball a'growin' away in my poor pelvic cavity. When we discussed the surgery he'd mentioned that should I ever become pregnant, any existing fibriods would grow more rapidly than usual because they like yummy estrogen. So this was not a big shocker. At my first meeting with my new OB she commented on the new meatball. She said she might do more ultrasounds than normal to keep an eye on it. She explained that "the pregnancy" (you mean my fetus? What's up with referring to it as THE PREGNANCY?) would draw blood supply away from the meatball. As a result, she said, it might become...she looked at me. I looked at her. Necrotic we said in unison. It was a cute little bonding moment. There's no particular cause for concern at the moment, but...fucking fibroids. They just don't quit.
I also finally got the results of the NT scan. Normal. I had to call--they don't tell you anything unless there's a problem. I'm not sure that's my favorite approach, but that's the price I pay for going to a hospital office rather than some cushy suburban OB with an aromatherapy doppler or whatever. I'll get the more specific details at my next appointment.
Necrosis to the fibroid, dude. May it shrivel up and die. Dominance of the fetus is awesome! Bun Bun 1; Fibroid 0.
ReplyDeleteGlad the NT scan is all good, Bunny.
I share in your glumness for Roccie.
did you get your nt scan results after the fact bc you did your bloodwork the same day? i did mine 1.5 weeks ago (blood part, that is), so was hoping to get the results same day. i hope i'm not dreaming. i can't take another day of anticipation more than necessary.
ReplyDeletei had to look up necrotic just now. i love how the first definition says "of or relating to necrosis", like that helps. but subsequent definitions were more helpful. i hate not knowing what ppl are talking about :o)
Stupid fibroids. Glad your NT scam was good. Thanks for your comment it helps.
ReplyDeleteExcellent on the NT front. Not so great on the neurotic necrotic meatball. Shoot, bunny. I hope that things not related to growing baby stay put. Practice that stern Mom voice to intimidate it!
ReplyDeleteDamn, meatball. I bet it grows a little bit but won't give you any problems. Half the women we probably know have fibroids during their pregnancy and nothing ever becomes of them. Don't worry, Bunny Bun Bun. Every little ting is gonna be alright! ;)
ReplyDeleteSuper sad face for Roccie. :(
Ah crap. Little meaty effer.
ReplyDeleteGood news on the other hand about the test results. Excellent!
happy to hear that the NT scan was normal! Great news :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd, die, little, fibroid! Shrivel up and die!
{ack, i hate it when i mess up my punctuation.}
ReplyDeleteYeah for the normal NT scan! BUmmer on the meatball.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I first read neurotic... can't it do at least proper apoptosis, nice and clean? Anyways, I hope it won't bother you or Bun Bun.
ReplyDeleteAlso, glad to hear that the NT scan was fine! Not being told anything would clearly not be my favorite approach... will consider the aromatherapy doppler for my next clinic.
Meatball schmeatball--GAH. As if doubt and worry weren't already in generous supply around these parts. :( For what it's worth, and clearly I'm no medical expert: I work around uteruses (uteri?) and their contingent all the live long day, and I have seen countless ladies who rock a mighty cute and healthy fetus despite a gnarly fibroid or three. I'm with everyone else: everything is going to be alright.
ReplyDeleteAlso, good on the normal NT! When I had my quad screen, they tried to pull the same shit with me--"Oh everything is within normal limits"--without really dishing any of the details. I said, uh-huh, no way, give me those labs and explain each item to me. And at the next appointment the following month (after a fair share of googling), I had them go over it with me again. "Normal" just doesn't cut it.
So glad that the NT scan went well. And GO AWAY stupid meatball.
ReplyDeleteI love your writing, you make me laugh.
Bunny, you are good to me. You put a smile on my sour puss face.
ReplyDeleteYour timing couldn't have been better as I was just lapped by a co worker who got pregnant (oops baby) after I did.
Thank you for thinking about me.
The NT results are an incredible relief. Fantastic news! You continue to achieve goal after goal. I take great joy in your pregnancy. Finally, something worth yelling from the rooftops.
Thanks again. It sure means a lot as I wait for the call today to tell me what I already know.
ARGh. Stupid fibroids. Go AWAY!
ReplyDeleteBut great news on the NT scan. Huge sigh of relief I'm sure!
Great news on the NT front, although calling only when there is a problem is not my favoured approach either. Sorry to hear about the meatball. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteWonderful!!!!!!! I am so happy for the normal NT scan. That's really really good news. Whew.
ReplyDeleteOk - and no more using the word "necrotic" which I had to look up, thankyouverymuch.
Good NT scan--YEAH!!!! (that's a biggie) possibly necrotic fibroid--BOO! I hate the funky wahoo crap that never seems to stop haunting you. I gots the endo that increases the chance of a c-section--sucks but I'll take it!
ReplyDeleteYay for a normal NT scan!!! Crazy about the fibroid... Go away!!!
ReplyDeleteEffing effbroids.
ReplyDeleteThat is all.
